-God Remembers Our Service

God Remembers Our Service

There are two times when the word “memorial” is used in the New Testament, when God remembers someone. One is in reference to salvation, and the other to service.

Cornelius was searching, that is doing “by nature the things contained in the Law” (Rom. 2:14 KJV). God remembered Cornelius and an angel said to him, “Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God” (Acts 10:4). Then God sent Peter to preach the gospel to him, and as a result he was saved along with all his house.

Mary, having already believed in Christ, did “what she could” (Mk. 14:8). Her costly perfume was poured on Him in preparation for His burial. Out of all the followers of Jesus, Mary was the only one who knew of His purpose on earth. Her service was great in the Lord’s eyes, and He pointed that out for a memorial of her: “Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of, for a memorial of her” (Mk. 14:9).

God remembered us also, even while we were yet sinners. He sent His salvation, and remembers all that we do in honor of Him. Let us remember Him for such great salvation, and serve Him with all our hearts.

By Tom Steere

Praise the Lord, who died to save us,

Praise His ever gracious name;

Praise Him that He lives to bless us,

Now and evermore the same:

Blessed Savior! Blessed Savior!

We would all Thy love proclaim.
