-Open My Eyes!
Open My Eyes!
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” Psalm 119:18 NKJV
A story is told of a farmer who used a large rock as a door stop for many years. Toward the end of his life, it was discovered that this “rock” contained veins of gold. It was further discovered that the very land on which this farmer lived and worked was laced with rich deposits of gold! All his life he had squeezed out a frugal living from the soil, totally unaware that under the soil were riches far greater than he could ever imagine. And it belonged to him all the time! The only thing required was the time and effort to dig down and bring the gold to the surface; then the owner could enjoy what the value of the gold could bring into his life.
Isn’t that the way it is with us many times concerning the riches of God’s Word? We may live much of our lives with a superficial knowledge of the Bible; it may direct us, help us, comfort us, and even enlighten us. All these things are good and profitable. But only when we take the time to “dig” into it and discover the “nuggets” do we begin to enjoy the richness of the Word. Only when we allow the Spirit time to “open our eyes” to the wondrous things contained in it, do we enter into the enjoyment of thoughts deeper than the surface, blessed as they are. We are brought into a deeper understanding of the mind of God Himself, to feel His heartbeat, it seems. We are drawn into an intimacy with Him that can revolutionize our lives. All of this power is inherent in the Word, but often not discovered or utilized because the richness and depth of God’s Word is left untouched. Let’s take the time to dig in and meditate! It will bless us today and prepare us for eternity in His presence.
