-This Ship Is Sinking!

This Ship Is Sinking! Suppose you are aboard a ship on the high seas, and suddenly the captain announces that the ship is about to sink. Would your first thoughts be fear of death and how to avoid it? I’m sure you’d forget all about money, things and pleasures. Now suppose the captain announces that life preservers are available to get you safely to shore. How would you respond? You’d grab one immediately, and put it on quickly and securely.

Like this story, right now you’re sailing the high seas of this world on the ship of life – and it’s about to sink into hell. God’s word announces it: “All have sinned” and “the wages of sin is death” (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). As you hear this announcement, do you sense that you’re sinking because of your sins, and will end up in hell if you do nothing? The Bible says you’ll stand before the Holy God in judgment (Rom. 14:12), and if your name is not written in the Book of Life, you will sink into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:15).

Are you thinking how you can possibly escape? The Captain of your salvation, Jesus Christ, announces how to be saved. He has tasted death for everyone (Heb. 2:10), and by God’s grace is offering you a life preserver – “The gift of God is eternal life” (Rom. 6:23). It will carry you safely to heaven’s shore through the angry waves of God’s judgment against sin. Christ has already borne God’s judgment on your behalf (Isa. 53:5-6).

What’s your response? Will you accept God’s gift of an eternal life preserver? Will you do it now? Will you put it off? Or will you reject it? The choice is yours. I plead with you to act now. Confess your sins to Christ, and trust Him to save you by accepting His free gift of eternal life. If you’re struggling with what to do, write to us. We can help!
