Psalm 36:9 KJV“In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
|Light Divine surrounds thy going,
God Himself shall mark thy way;
Secret blessings, richly flowing,
Lead to everlasting day.
– J. N. Darby
Ponce de Leon (1460-1521), the Spanish explorer who discovered Florida, also searched in vain for the fountain of youth. He could not find it, but even if he could, a fountain of youth could never compare to the fountain of life.
Drinking from a fountain of youth would only prolong those youthful desires and lusts which Scripture admonishes us to flee (2 Tim. 2:22). But drinking of the fountain of life enables us to see aright the path of life, recognizing the vanity of youth.
We then see our lives as God sees them, in the light of eternity. And our thirst is satisfied by the promised One, “our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10). He has said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (Jn. 10:10).
