-This Is A BIG Problem!
It took only a second for 17 year-old Thomas to realize that the elderly driver ahead of him really needed help fast. The woman’s car was stuck on the train tracks! “I saw the train lights coming, and I said, ‘This is a big problem,’” the Glenview, Illinois high school senior later told reporters. Taught as a lifeguard to respond to emergencies, he dashed to her car with two friends close behind him. The woman seemed confused as they pounded on her window, but finally they got the door open, unhooked her seatbelt and dragged her to safety.
They were only about ten feet away when two trains traveling in opposite directions completely destroyed the woman’s vehicle.
Collisions between automobiles and trains are always devastating, making this rescue all the more dramatic. But have you ever felt like the world itself is headed for a catastrophe even more devastating?
Listen to the conversations of your neighbors or co-workers as they discuss troubling world events. Think about disturbing reports of abuse and neglect that cause you to shake your head in anger. Take notice of society’s spiraling concerns about environmental stability and financial security.
Like so many freight trains, these issues can seem to be barreling down from all directions, converging upon us with frightening intensity.
The Bible does not paint a prettier picture, but rather an even grimmer one. The reality is that “in the last days perilous times will come” and evil people will become “worse and worse,” wrote the apostle Paul (2 Tim. 3:1-13 NKJV).
Yet there is a rescuer! As Paul also wrote, “our Savior Jesus Christ … abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10).
The root cause of all our problems is sin. The Lord Jesus will deal with global unrighteousness later (2 Tim. 4:1), but right now He wants to save you from your personal sin-situation.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16).
And He is fully qualified to do this, not because of any emergency training but because of His sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection. Nothing remains for you to do but accept His deliverance.
Do you see the train lights of disaster rushing toward this world? Don’t wait for the collision! Your rescuer is at the door. Let the Lord Jesus Christ take hold of your life and carry you to safety. We can tell you more.
