Enjoyment Without Corruption

“By faith Moses … refused … to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.” Hebrews 11:24-25 NKJV

Because of lust, mankind has taken everything that God has given for our good and committed sin with it. There is not one good thing that man has not corrupted in some way.

Material possessions have become coveted idols. Enjoyment of delicious food has given way to gluttony (1 Pet. 4:3). The use of medicinal plants has turned into substance abuse and addiction. Taking “a little wine” (1 Tim. 5:23) has grown into drunkenness. The honorable marriage bed has been perverted with fornication, adultery, pornography, and other unmentionable sexual abuses (Rom. 1:24-29).

This tendency is so strong in us that even the apostle Paul wrote, “I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) nothing good dwells … Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Rom. 7:18, 24-25).

When we trust in Jesus, He gives us the ability to enjoy His gifts without the lust for sinful excess: “Trust … in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Tim. 6:17). And when we see His face, we shall enjoy pleasures forevermore, with no sin attached.

“At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
