The townspeople were shocked when they heard the bad news – an officer in their small, rural bank had embezzled ten million dollars. “Ten million! I can’t believe it!” exclaimed one man. “Whatever possessed him to do such a crazy thing? And how did he do it?” Then more bad news circulated – the bank would be closed immediately and all assets frozen pending a full-scale investigation by the FBI. “My life’s savings are in that bank” said a retired farmer. “I’m right in the middle of a real estate deal” groaned a local businessman. “Will I lose all my money?” questioned an elderly widow. “Why did this have to happen right before my retirement?” said one of the bank’s employees. And these were just some of the complaints heard around town. All of a sudden, the best laid plans of the people in this small town faded fast as they saw their life savings begin to look more like a significant loss, their security turn into insecurity, and their relative comfort become real anxiety. One man quickly tried to withdraw his money before the doors of the bank closed indefinitely. Another just stared blankly into space and muttered about his future collapsing before his eyes. A third tried to calm his friends by assuring them that the government had insurance to cover such losses. His attempted encouragement didn’t help much.

Does your happiness depend on what you have in the bank, that can be brought to ruin by an embezzler? Or is it in heaven where your investment is eternally secure? Are you putting all your trust in temporal things that will fail, or eternal things that will never fail because they’re: built upon the solid rock which is Christ (Mt.7:24-27; 16:16-18); purchased by His shed blood (Acts 20:28); certified by His resurrection (1 Cor.15:54-58); and insured by His ascension (Acts 1:8-11)?

Are you worried about your future because all your material gain is now being threatened, and maybe even slipping away? If so, before it’s too late, invest in the bank of heaven where no one can ever steal or embezzle your assets and your benefits are good and secure for eternity. Here’s what Jesus says about His investment plan: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon the earth … where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven … where thieves do not break in and steal” (Mt. 6:19-20).

How do you invest in this heavenly security plan that pays phenomenal dividends and cannot fail? By trusting in the One who made it possible – our Savior, Jesus Christ. David, one of His oldest and most well-known investors, described Him this way: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield … my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Ps. 18:2-3).
