Have you ever thought about the question, “Why am I here?” I’m not talking about the birth process, but something far deeper than the physical aspects of your entrance into this life. Do you know why you are here? If not, I believe God has given me this opportunity to tell you that you were created for His glory. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31 NKJV). It also tells you that He is “seeking worshipers to worship Him” (Jn. 4:23). Living for yourself is not living for the glory of God. If you are living for yourself, you are doing your will instead of God’s will, and that’s really what sin is – disobeying God’s law (1 Jn. 3:4). Jesus said, “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit” (Jn. 15:8).
Fruit here represents lives lived for the glory of God. If you planted an apple tree and it never produced apples you might be tempted to cut it down, right? So if you don’t bear fruit for God you will someday have to answer to Him about it.
Jesus said, “My food (purpose in life) is to do the will of Him who sent Me” (Jn. 4:34). He always did God’s will; it was the most important thing in His life. Is it important to you? Have you read the Bible prayerfully to find out what God’s will is for you? If not, then it is obvious that you are living to do your own will rather than living for God’s glory.
In the Bible we read God’s verdict about us: “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way” (Isa. 53:6). We are “dead in trespasses and sins … fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath” (Eph. 2:1,3). “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27).
Actually, you cannot live to the glory of God until you receive a new life from Him. Jesus said, “You must be born again” (Jn. 3:7). He further explains that the way to be born again is to believe (trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. God loved the world, including you, so much that He sent His beloved Son into this world to die on a cross for your sins and mine. He was buried and He arose from the dead (1 Cor. 15:4) and is now at God’s right hand in heaven, a living Savior for a world of needy sinners. He wants to be your Savior too. Trust Him as your Savior and you will be His child, born again into His family.
God gives His children everything necessary to help us live for His glory. He gives us His Word, the Bible, to show us how to live. He gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us and guide us through life, and to help us understand His Word. The Lord Jesus maintains our relationship with God and He becomes the focus of our hearts.
This is why God created you. This is why you are here. But unless you come to God in His way you will miss the true purpose for your life!
