Living For Jesus In The Last Days

Rev Mar’s July 12 sermon in PDF here:

Living For Jesus In The Last Days

  1. REVIEW
  1. The other weekend, we talked about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2), that is the Rapture, and that the Thessalonian believers in Jesus should not be concerned that Rapture has happened yet because Rapture precedes the revelation of the antichrist and the Day of the Lord has not come yet because that man of wickedness is still being restrained by the Holy Spirit dwelling in hearts of the believers because according to 1 Corinthians 3:16, we, believers in Christ Jesus are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in us.
  2. We also talked about the rewards given to believers when we all appear before the Lord Jesus Christ in His bema seat of judgment that our deeds while in the body here on earth while we are on earth eagerly waiting with love for him to appear. Because. one day, we will all stand before the Lord Jesus Christ and give an account of our service to Him.  “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” ( 2 Corinthians 5:10 )
  1. This is not a judgment for our sin because Jesus took our judgment unto Himself for us. The penalty or our sins have been paid in full by Jesus Christ by dying on the cross for us, for without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sin (Heb. 9:22). There is therefore no condemnation to those who have committed their all (faith, hope and love) to and in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:1)
  2. This is a judgment not for sin but for rewards. Salvation from sin is by grace through faith in Jesus and it is not based on our works for the Lord. ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ) But in Ephesians 2:10,  the Bible says that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Unlike salvation, rewards are earned on earth by our faithful service to the Lord Jesus. 1 Corinthians 3, verses 13-15 say, “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
  3. From these verses, we understand that it is possible to be saved and enter the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, but if all his work in his body is burned, he suffers loss but he himself is saved but that would be a very miserable outcome of a Christian’s life where he spends eternity without any commendation from the Lord.
  4. After Rapture, when all saved ones will stand before the bema seat of Christ, when rewards are given based on what we have done in the body good or evil, there will be some who will be ashamed before the Lord’s bema seat of judgment because 1John 2:28 says “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” Let us, therefore, fight the good fight of faith and strive not to be one of those who will stand before the Lord empty-handed. Let us talk about having no rewards or losing rewards.
  1. Failure to fulfill the great commission. There are those who have been saved for years but have no record of service to the Lord. They have never shared the gospel to win a soul to Christ. Our part is to share the gospel, the Spirit convicts and Jesus forgives and makes all things new to the believer who believes in Him. We would be asked by Jesus about His great commission given to us in Matthew 28:19-20 to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Before He ascended to the right hand of the throne of God, His last commandment was, “and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
  2. It would be a too sad situation when a Christian can accumulate rewards while on earth then lose them before the Rapture because of foolish living because the Bible teaches, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7). Consider also 2 John 8, “Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for but may win a full reward.” The Philadelphian church which, unlike the other typical churches of church history, received no rebuke or reproof from the Lord, was urged by the Lord, “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation 3:11) Paul has this to say about how to not lose your reward, “But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” (1Corinthians 9:27). The apostle Paul knew that he could lose his rewards if he fails to discipline his flesh and allowed it to rule his life rather than the Spirit, walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)
  3. Wrong motive. Also 1 Corinthians 4:5 says, “Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.” This verse tells us that we may be doing good works but with a wrong purpose or wrong motive hidden in our hearts. That is why Paul exhorts the Colossians to check their hearts in whatever they do, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him… And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:17, 24-25). Jesus should be the only reason for our thoughts, words and deeds, “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ”. (1 Corinthians 3:11). Unless your works are done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, they will be burned, and the Christian suffers loss. Thus, Colossians 3:25 says, “But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
  4. To those who fought the good fight of faith, to those who finished the Christian race by looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, to those who have kept the faith, there are crowns laid up for them while here on earth waiting for the Lord’s coming for His church. These are:
  1. Crown of righteousness for those who have finished the Christian race with patience by looking unto Jesus, those who have kept the faith by fighting the good fight of faith. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
  2. Crown of life for those who remain steadfast suffering under trial (James 1:12) and those who suffer persecution as the church of Smyrna (Revelation 2:10). What is the motivation to withstand trials and persecution? It is their love for Jesus.
  3. Crown of glory is for the elders and spiritual leaders who supervise and feed the Lord’s flock not under compulsion but willingly and not for shameful gain, but eagerly. When the chief Shepherd shall appear, they shall receive that crown of glory that fadeth not away. (1Peter 5:1-4)
  4. Crown incorruptible for those who strove for excellence and mastery in Christian life by self-discipline and self-control. (1Corinthians 9:25)
  5. Crown of rejoicing is for those soul winners. This crown is available for every believer in Christ Jesus. (1Thessalonians 2:19)
  6. Our lesson this Sunday: 2 Corinthians 5:9-10  “So whether we are at home (with the Lord) or away (from the Lord), we make it our aim to please him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” How can we be pleasing in His sight? How do you please the Lord Jesus? In the context of 2 Timothy 4:7-8, how can we please the Lord by fighting the good fight of faith, finishing the race and keeping the faith?
  1. The essence of the Book of Habbakuk is that “the just or the righteous shall live by faith” (Hab. 2:4). Whatever be the situation of Habbakuk, he rejoiced and trusted in the Lord with an incorruptible faith. He said, “Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will take joy in the God of my salvation.” The essence of faith lies in its object. The object of the content of my faith is the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. As a Christian, how can I tackle and overcome the failures, temptation, danger, and evils of this world? Sabi ng Panginoong Jesucristo, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16). “Be wise as serpents but harmless as doves.” Kaya may peace, shalom. Ang peace ay hindi lamang absence of conflict but wholeness, balanced, panatag at dahil panatag, there is prosperity in the sense na maginhawa ang landas na tinatahak mo.
(a) Moses was learned in all wisdom of Egypt; (b) Daniel was learned in the wisdom of Babylon; (c) Paul was educated at the foot of Gamaliel and in the Hellenistic educational system of Tarsus; (d) Peter was adept at being a fisherman because he was linguistically conversant in Aramaic and Greek. All of them used their wisdom for the Lord Jesus Christ. Moses abdicated himself of the throne of Egypt refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter but choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. He esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he was awaiting for the greater recompense of the reward (Hebrews 11:24-26). Daniel risked to lose his life in the lions’ den just to be able to pray to his living God rather than in the name of the king.. Who is the God of Daniel? He is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets (Daniel 2:47). He is the stone cut without human hands (Daniel 2:45). This is the Lord Jesus Christ who will come to destroy and replace all the kingdom of men on earth with the Kingdom of God on earth. For the sake of Jesus, Paul suffered the loss of all things and count them as refuse in order that he may gain Christ and be found in Him (Philippians 3:8-9). Peter gave up his trade of fishing and say, “Lord , we have left all and followed You.” (Mark 10:28; Luke 18:28)
They were famous for their astronomical observations and calculations (aided by their invention similar to the abacus, 2400 BC), used a sexagesimal (base-60) positional numeral system, hindi decimal o base 10.
  5. Paano tayo magiging marunong? What is the concept of being wise, not worldly wisdom but in godly wisdom? Concept of wise is in the context of being gracious or spreading the infinite goodwill of the Lord by being prudent, provident and productive.
  6. Being prudent-pagkilatisin o uriin upang piliin ang pinakamagaling at itataguyod ang pinakamagandang uri (maselan, maingat, suplado). Pag-uri, pagkilatis dahil may mukhang anghel ngunit ugaling demonyo; mukhang diamante ngunit puwit ng baso; mukhang ginto ngunit tanso kaya may katawagang “natanso”. Pagiging marunong sa mapagpipilian na matutunan: (a) truth of the Lord Jesus Christ, (b) probabilities of science, (c) falsehood of satan. Anong pipiliin mo: komiks o aklat sa paaaralan. Your choice determines your life path so there is a need to be prudent.
  1. Biblical illustration of being prudent or imprudent: Is the lifestyle of married life of Solomon prudently chosen, i.e., 1:1,000? He stood by his choice (Rachel) but he entered into a social compromise with Laban. He should have separated from Lea and instead, married Rachel. But that was his choice. But he was not prudent and his house became a house of intrigue. (cf. Abraham’s life)
  2. The ripple or domino effect.  Hos. 8:7  “They have sown the wind and they reap the whirlwind.” ( “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” [Gal. 6:8] )
  3. Being provident (maging mapaglaan). Hindi pa nangyayari, mayroon ka nang paglalaan. Sinasabi sa Proverbs 6:6  “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise” at sa Proverbs 30:25  “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer”, iyong langgam may pag-iimpok o pag-iimbak, may paglalaan sa panahon ng tag-ulan.
Hindi “walang alam” ang pinag-uusapan dito kundi “hibang” (as opposed to wise). Providence is counting the cost: whether kings or builders. The builder of a tower, sits down, counts the cost, and check his budget if he has sufficient funds to finish the project. The king before he goes to war against another king, he sits down first, and consults his generals if he has the military strength to meet a stronger army then decides to make war or negotiate for peace (Lk 14:28-32). In short, If you are wise, you are provident.
  2. Foresight, hindsight, insight. Have foresight by learning from hindsight, so you will gain insight from your past. Sinabi ni Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, isang tanyag na German philosopher, “We learn from history that we do not learn from history.”
(Matthew 24:21-22)
  4. Paano ang paglalaan. Ang paglalaan ay hindi kontra sa sinabi ng Panginoong Jesucristo na “take no thought of tomorrow (do not worry about tomorrow) let tomorrow take care of itself.” We are not to worry about the future but prepare yourself for the future. To be ready for the Lord’s second coming is to anticipate it. Sabi nga ni propetang Amos. “Prepare to meet thy God.”(Amos 4:12)
  5. The best way to be ready- “Sapagka’t napakita ang biyaya ng Dios, na may dalang kaligtasan sa lahat ng mga tao, na nagtuturo sa atin, upang, pagtanggi natin sa kalikuan at sa mga kahalayan ng sanglibutan, ay marapat mabuhay tayong may pagpipigil at matuwid at banal sa panahong kasalukuyan ng sanglibutang ito na hintayin yaong mapalad na pagasa at ang pagpapakita ng kaluwalhatian ng ating dakilang Dios at Tagapagligtas na si Jesucristo na siyang nagbigay ng kaniyang sarili dahil sa atin, upang tayo’y matubos niya sa lahat ng mga kasamaan, at malinis niya sa kaniyang sarili ang bayang masikap sa mabubuting gawa, upang maging kaniyang sariling pag-aari.(Titus 2:11-14).
  6. Being productive o pagiging mabunga sa paglilingkod sa Panginoong Jesucristo. The Lord said that while we are waiting for His coming for us, we should occupy till He comes (Luke 19:13). It is encouraging to learn that rewards given in the bema seat of Christ is not based on the quantity of resources nor in the ability of the servants of Christ but rewards are given based on how faithful the servant was making use of the resources and abilities for the benefit of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  7. Being wise in the context of the All For Jesus Theonomy, Cosmonomy and Historionomy is to act by faith on the word of the Lord and be productive.
Being wise according to Jesus is being wise in that framework of order of Jesus, come to Jesus, listen to His words and do them.
  2. Good, faithful and wise servant. Sa Luke chapter 12, iyong good and faithful servant ay “wise.” It is our duty to do the goodwill of Jesus Christ to all. We should fulfill our duty to the Lord Jesus Christ to spread the infinite goodwill of Jesus.
The great commission- gawing alagad ng Panginoong Jesucristo and lahat ng mga bansa. (For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent (KJV) or “shoulder to shoulder” (NIV). There is coming a day when all people (plural, not Jews only but also the Gentiles), all nations will be All For Jesus, calling upon the name of Jesus with a pure language and serving Him with one consent, shoulder to shoulder (NIV) which means with one aim, with united effort. The metaphor is taken from beasts drawing together in one yoke, or men setting their shoulders together to one burden (katulad ng ating “bayanihan”).
In these last days, upang tayo ay maging productive, maging mabunga na itinanim ng Panginoon, kailangang tayo ay nagco-comply sa tatlong requirements na iyon: (1) We are gathering in His name; (2) We are calling upon His name; (3) We are shoulder to shoulder, in one consent, in one accord, serving Him.
  5. Sa Book of Acts, ang tagumpay ng mga mananampalataya sa pagpapalaganap ng katuruan ni Cristo ay dahil madalas sinasabi, they were “in one accord.” (  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication( Acts 1:14). And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place (Acts 2:1) ;  And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house (Acts 2:46) ; And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is (Acts 4:24) ;  And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch (Act 5:12) ; And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake ( Act 8:6).  Then Paul said, “Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” (Philippians 2:2)
  6. The Endview. Why? (Jn. 17:24 ; Acts 17:28) Song: We are gathering together unto Him. Gen. 49:10- the gathering of the people shall be unto Shiloh (the rightful owner of all) saan man, dito sa lupa, sa gloria, sa paraiso, magtitipon tayo kay Jesus.

[ang Biblia]  “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” [KJV])

Saang pangkat ka? Anong barkada mo? Anong tropa mo? Wise or foolish? By now, you should have clarified this in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
